Writing, Reading, Comprehension and Grammar (Fall Sem)
Writing, Reading Comprehension, & Grammar 4 th – 8th grades "Reading is like breathing in, and writing is like breathing out." — Pam Allyn "Reading and writing are the same thing; it's just one's the more active and the other's the more passive. They flow into each other." — Jonathan Lethem This is a FALL SEMESTER class. My goal is to encourage your students to be creative in their writing by writing a variety of genres; to read for understanding, & to understand that grammar is vital to their writing. (Writing genres we may cover are instructions, poetry, advertisement, 5-paragraph essay in narrative, opinion &/or persuasive writing, graphic story, mini-research paper). Reading comprehension through book studies, which provide structured, in-depth exploration of literature, by using chapter questions, vocabulary exercises, and character analysis to ensure comprehension. Grammar, all the ‘goodies’ that make reading enjoyable and writing interesting. There WILL be weekly reading, writing, & grammar assignments. Prerequisite: MUST be able to work independently & be a confident reader (however, audible books may be accessible through Yoto, Libby, Audible, or Spotify) Cost: Class fee $600.00 + your HERC fee of $ 20.00 (payable by check to HERC) + required texts & supplies (List will be provided…) Period: 2 (9:25-10:45am) Minimum # of students - 6 Maximum # of students -12
