Biology OR Chemistry (depending on interest and schedule)

Holly Assi

Biology OR Chemistry   This full-year Biology course is designed to teach students the importance of the world around them, from the tiniest organisms to the biggest creatures that roam the earth. Throughout the school year we will explore living things created by God. Students will learn to appreciate the complexity of His design and know how living organisms function and respond to their environments. We will look at cells, the building blocks of all life, and even life that we cannot see with our eyes alone. This class will include Lecture, hands-on labs (including dissections) as well as demonstrations and drawings to aid in visual learning. Tests on the material taught will be provided as well. Considering Apologia Exploring Creation with Biology 2nd Edition by Jay Wile for text.     OR   In this full-year Chemistry course, students will learn the importance of atoms, molecules and compounds. We will study the properties of elements and learn how to use the Periodic Table. Exploring chemical compositions and the many different chemical reactions will ensure students with a solid high school level understanding of chemistry and how it impacts the world around us. This class consists of Lecture and Lab/Demonstrations, and students are to fill out their lab manuals and take notes on experiments and discussions.  Tests on the material taught will be provided as well. Considering Apologia’s Exploring Creation with Chemistry 2nd Edition by Jay Wile for text.   For additional information or questions, or to be placed on a temporary class roster please reach out to Amber or Holly at This email address is being protected from spambots. Intro to Robotics

Holly Assi

This full-year class will involve brainstorming, designing, building and programming a robot with a competitive game in mind. There will be no formal curriculum as it is a hands-on, student-driven class to give students the opportunity to gain experience in STEM related fields (there is some online curricula that parents can use at home if they so desire). No grades will be given, as the class is participation based only. Participation and commitment are key to the success of this class. Several former members of the local award-winning home school robotics team "The Battle Bolts" will be providing guidance and expertise to students during class time. Our teams will participate in the Kern Robotics League, where we will compete with other local high schools on four different Saturdays. In addition, there will be several local full-day tournaments that we have the option to compete in this year. Teamwork, as well as learning good communication and problem-solving skills are other added benefits of this class. Parent involvement is highly recommended. Limited spots available. All materials will be provided, however if you have a laptop you can bring to class that would be beneficial, but not required.
